Can I deduct the contributions I made to a charity?
You can deduct charitable contributions with a limit that it doesn't exceed 50% of your adjusted gross income. Any excess can be carried over for 5 years. For a contribution of cash, check, or monetary gift (regardless of amount), you must maintain as a record of the contribution either a bank record or a written communication from the qualified organization. For any contribution of $250 or more (including contributions of property), you must obtain a contemporaneous written acknowledgment from the qualified organization. To be deductible, charitable contributions must be made to qualified organizations. You can contact the IRS to confirm if the the contributions you made were to a qualified organization.
